Vinnie's Guide To Israel

40 years ago, Vinnie was born. She hasn't really grown since then, and is still as childish as ever. However, I decided that a 40th birthday is a pretty good reason to celebrate. So I took Vinnie on a voyage around Israel, a small and relatively young country (61), and also still behaving a bit childish at times...

The journey, which took about six days (and five months to edit), covered more than 1,700 km. My goal was to take a picture of Vinnie near the "Welcome" sign of each of the 40 largest cities in Israel, from Nahariya, Haifa and Tiberius in the north, to Be'er Sheva, Rahat and Eilat in the south.

It wasn't always easy, having only 21.5 hp, no radio, air-conditioning (or even a roof), but we made it without too many problems.

Trough this quite unique project, I also learned new things about Israel's largest cities, and seen them in a way I've never seen before. Mostly meaning - slowly and from a low viewing point... But seriously - this project has been a lot of fun for me, and even Vinnie seems like she enjoyed the extra mileage (and attention from people everywhere she went).

I hope you'll enjoy reading about the cities we visited, and learn something new about this beautiful country, which often suffers from bad publicity because of wars and unnecessary conflicts. There are in Israel, after all, normal people.

And now, a few facts - כמה עובדות על המסע

1. The Trip took a total of six days, all of whom were Saturday mornings beginning April 18th.

4. During the trip Vinnie covered 1,718 km, at an average of 6.2 liter of petrol per 100 km (38 mpg).

2. Each day started at 4 am. Less traffic, a cooler temperature and very, very exhausting...

5. That means she consumed roughly 107 liters of petrol (28 gallons) during the entire trip.

3. The longest day was the drive to Eilat (city 29), with about 750 km (470 miles) and a little more than 10 hours.

6. There are 7.371 million people living in Israel - 50% of them live in the 20 largest cities, 63% in the top 40 cities.
